Study in Australia 4 -Quick guide about things to bring for your long stay

airport in Australia Overseas

Today, I’m going to give some advice about your luggage. Following lists are convenient items which in Australian university’s dormitory life.

Soup Stock (Japanese)

The first one is “Japanese soup stock”. I brought flying fish soup stock (ago-dashi), and it works to make my poor dish amazing. I use it for my soup, pasta, miso-soup, pot-au-feu (like French “oden”). I was surprised that it works for not only Japanese dishes, but also western meat dishes!

I am Japanese girl, but if you are from another nation, I strongly recommend you to bring your home country’s seasonings. Some of specific spices or fravours are difficult to get here. (especially rural area)

iPad

Second one is “iPad”. It is really useful for studying English. It’s okay to use paper notebooks, but thanks to my iPad, I can find my notes quickly. (In iPad’s app, you can find your notes by searching typing even if it is handwritten.) Also, I don’t have to bring so much stationery, and save standard stationery. Japanese stationery is the best for me, so I didn’t want to use Ausie one.

Clear File Folder

Third one is a “clear file folder”. I was surprised that we still use papers for classes, here. In Japan, we have PDF, and we annotate by computers, or iPads, but here, I have so many papers. So, I strongly recommend this.

Heat-Tech

Forth one is “Heat tech”. It’s okay using other kinds of functionally underwear, but you should bring some. The day I came here, it was so cold that I was relieved because I brought four sets.

Face Masks

Fifth one is Face masks. Of course, you can buy them here, but I wonder if I could buy the one which fit my face. In Japan, we can choose from many colours and sizes, but not here. (the moment I stayed in Australia was still in Covid pandemic)

Laundry Accessaries

Laundry things means, nets, small hand lines, hangers, and so on. I brought these, but you can select which are not for you. For me, I don’t do laundry so often because it costs two dollars, so it is necessary for me to hanging items. Also, Australian washing machine is stronger than Japanese one, so if you concern about damages, I highly recommended to bring nets.

Underwear (more than seven)

Moreover, I recommend you bring underwear more than seven sets. I brought them five sets, but it’s not enough. I have to do laundry whenever my underwear is running out. I tried to wash by hand, but we couldn’t use hot water in the laundry space, so it was hard for me. I was freezing!!

skin water

In addition, “skin water” is necessary, too. I didn’t use it in Japan, so I didn’t bring any, but here, it is so dry, so my facial skin is a little bit dry without lotion. But most lotion here is oily more than I expected. I found only two thing in Wizard Phamacy (The one is the closest phamacy from my domitory)

  • Sukin -Original Hydorating mist torner

This one is mist type and, my roommate taught me that it is useful to pore care. I used it and I felt my spots are disappeared! It was not so strong smell, but because of organic brand, its scent was like leaves. The price was around 14 AUD, but it is sometimes in Half Price Sale in Coles/ Woolworth, so affordable.

  • Simple

This one is really close to Japanese style. However, it was imported from UK, so bit expensive. It was 10 AUD. I used it more quantity per one time than sukin one, so it ran out earlier.

I hope this will work for your future studying abroad experiences. See you next time.
